Hey guys, i had a float switch failure due to which all the fresh water got dumped, creating a major salinity fluctuation. Later next morning i found big ich spots in my clowns (due to stress i guess).

My neighbour had crazy ich outbreak in his freshwater planted tank with over 100+ fishes, and he used this method and after this treatment, he got rid of ich withing 24hrs witout any deaths (some died before treatment though).

Well i did same thing, first dry mixed metro with focus, nls thera A 1mm and then added garlic guard. After refrigeration of about 4hrs, i fed it to my clowns, and saw about 70% recovery.

I dont have a qt, nor space for 1.

Clowns are again eating like crazy. No heavy breathing. But i can still see some very light spots on my bigger clown, my smaller clown has recovered almost 90%. seachem recomends continuing it for 2 to 4 weeks.. i use to feed them once a day, but now feeding them 3ice, the same medicated food iv made for them.

good husbendry will prevent issues with ICH, part of which is a healthy varied diet..... there is no miracle drug to get rid of ICH without hindering inverts/corals. the best way if to go fish-less for 8 weeks (this will break the ICHs life cycle) and then thoroughly quarantining/treat anything that will go in the system.

alternatively, again, good husbandry will allow your fishes immune system to naturally combat ICH. overstocking, aggression, parameter fluctuations (like you experienced) etc. are all things that can weaken an animals immune system allowing ICH to get a foot hold.

DO NOT get a cleaner wrasse, they are very hard to keep, and handle stress exceptionally badly (similiar to CBBs). Its been well over two years that i have mine, but i have a couple of larger fish in my system for him to clean, feed meaty foods as i make my own fish food, and have ich present in my system. though you will NEVER see white spots on my fish unless something suddenly goes terribly wrong..... If I could remove ich as a whole from my system I would feel better but sadly its not going to be possible for me....

google this stuff there are a bizzilion posts on the matter

I have not heard of this product. Is it safe to use in saltwater/reef tanks?

There is a great debate over treating fish with ich and not treating it but I have always read that when treating fish with meds it should be done in a seperate tank as these things often effect the balance of the tank, perameters, corals etc.

I would recommend you test your water parameters to make sure all is in check.

Ich is a parasite and even after you see improvement in your fish, its still present within the tank. To properly eliminate it from the tank, it has to be fishless for 6-8 weeks.
I had 2 fish die from ich, I let my tank go without fish for 4mnths before replacibg them.

Anything that can kill off ich will also be strong enough to kill off parts of our reefs. There is no such thing as a reef safe treatment. As mentioned above, good husbandry is the only way to combat it in a reef.

I found success in soaking food in multiple vitamins, garlic and fresh ground ginger. With this and a stress free environment my white cheek tang stopped displaying signs of ich within a week.

It is important to understand that ich is always there though.

Ya, i add seachem reef plus in tank, and also once a week soak food in it and feed my fishes. metroplex is a medicine and focus is a binder. So basiclly the medicine binds with the thera pellets once i mix them and add garlic juice. I then feed them.

Well they were white clear looking spots, they have vanished. There was also very heavy breathing. Now i can see very small grayish spots/patches if i see very closely. Nothing other than that. Heavy breathing has gone and fishes are eating imidiately like crazy everytime i feed the medicated pellets.

I am totally confused now what to do, im at work as of now. Also i use to check all parameters and all seems normal. Shud i add skimmer? Have been into this hobby for so long and never faced velvet issue.. shud i nuke the tank or keep it fishless for 2 mnths? I have soft corals. Help guys.

    Sorry for the loss.

The parasite will not harm your corals

Most often treating fish with meds can lead to more stress. A lot of aquarists will advise to not treat the fish immediately with meds, especially with something like ich.

In order to get rid of ich or velvet the tank must be fishless up to 8 weeks
