    I thought Karma was cool because you would get it only if you deserved it. I feel that, like is a bit impersonal. Just my opinion though.

    IMHO, karma was a bit deceiving. All one needed to do was get in with the right circle of friends, then give and receive freely. It was not uncommon to see a member of 2 years with 4k posts and 140m karma while a member of 5+ years had 16k posts and only 20k karma. That tends to imply that the first member was far more helpful, even though that was rarely the case. IOW, karma was just a number that could easily be manipulated, so if it were more personal, it was due mainly to the situation that Helen described- the intimidation factor. I tend to find it more personal and helpful to see on each post how many and which members liked it rather than just a consolidated, exaggerated number. :)
