Filling up my RO/DI top off tank today I turned on my inline tds meter to find it at ~25 ppm. So obviously something is no longer good. My guess is the resin which i replaced not very long ago which i bought from one of our supporters so it will remain nameless.

My first question is, Is this water worth keeping? I don't know how bad is too bad, and i need top off water daily. So should I buy some distilled jugs until i can get my problem solved?

Second, Should i only be looking at replacing the resin of do i need to check and see what my RO is putting out? I am not sure what that should be at either so some numbers there would be of great assistance as well. I am pretty positive the resin needs replaced for sure and i am planning on buying spectrapure resin this time around but am not sure what type i need.

And from what I understand, HE, is just like Beetlejuice and if you say HIS name 3 times on a question about water, he magically shows up. So here it goes, AZDesertRat, AZDesertRat, AZDesertRat!

I change my resin as soon as I hit 1 ppm of TDS. I use color changing DI resin to help keep me observant. I blow through resin monthly and I'm sure I can make it last longer if I get a better RO membrane which I am soon. My TDS coming from my tap is around 650-580. If you change your resin you will be at 0 TDS I'm sure. If it were me I would not use that water with that high of TDS but that's just my opinion.

If you blow through your resin monthly.... Do you have well water? A lot of well water is really high in co2, which makes you blow through resin at an astounding rate.

If your finished water TDS (25) is higher than the RO only TDS (18 I assume since you mentioned it or is this the RO/DI again only lower) then it means your DI is exhausted and releasing weakly ionized contaminants back in to the treated water. These can include nitrates, phosphates and silicates to name just a few.
Sounds like a better membrane would be worth the money as it will make the DI replacements last many times longer.

To troubleshoot the system it requires 3 TDS readings and is one reason why I do not recommend the inline TDS meters which only read two places and are not ATC temperature compensated so less accurate than an equal priced handheld. Use your inline and measure the tap TDS before the RO membrane and the finished water after the DI then disconnect the tee with the OUT probe from where it currently and slip it in between the RO and the DI by disconnecting the 1/4" line at the DI side, inserting the tee and using a short piece of tube you cut from somewhere to connect back to the DI.

The 18 tds is the same reading 10 minutes after the first reading. the first reading was about 5 minutes after starting the water through it.

What should the TDS look like after the RO before the DI?

    It is well water.
