Just ordered a new calcium and magnesium test kit. But for my own knowledge, if magnesium is 3x more consecrated than calcium, how is it possible for it to get out of wack?

There are so many variables. The salt could've settled before using, the test kits could have shown a false reading, ect. It's hard to know if there even out of balance without reliable test kits. Things in your aquarium will use the 3 elments over time and if not kept in check they will get out of balance. Some prefer water changes to keep things in line but for my tank I have to dose, my corals use up calcium very quickly.

A reef tank is never simple and it's always changing cody. Take your time and slowly you'll notice your reef getting better every month with a strong and steady maintenance schedule and being dillegent on research. That's what makes this hobby so special, always something new to learn. Trust me, we all have had rough patches with our tanks. I'm having one now as a matter of fact.

Thanks for the encouragement! What's up with your tank if you don't mind me asking?

I've got a color problem that needs tweaking and my parameters are a bit out of whack since I changed supplements and salt. These effects take time to figure out so I'm only changing one thing at a time instead of tweaking multiple things. Everyone is alive but not as glowing as I like. Plus my skimmer went down for a bit causing a phosphate issue due to nitrients. In about 5-8 months I expect to be back on track. Thanks VA, lol

Just so you are clear Magnesium levels should be approximately 3x the calcium level but just because the calcium is at 400 does not mean your Mag. is at 1200. That's why we test both of those values.☺
