Okay, I'm new to clams so I'm slightly panicking.

My 2" Maxima clam is closed up tight today and hasn't opened at all. The mantle is pulled in and the clam is tightly closed. Should I be worried, or do clams have bad days like this? Up until yesterday he was very happy and his mantle was very floppy.

    Thanks for any advice.

Are your params in check? If not the clam might be having a fit :p My clam went through a period where it didnt put its mantle out, after its fit was over it has it out all the time now and is big and floppy even during the night!

another thing, if the clam isnt footed. You can check for pyramid snails and as well to see if there is rubble or something in its foot irritating it.

I know nothing so I'm no help at all. Just want to say I hope the little clam is just being a brat and pouting. :)

Well he is footed and has been doing very well. I did a water change a couple days ago, but he was fine after the water change. Also, parameters are good, and my other clam is very happy. I dunno if any of the info helps at all.

    Any more ideas?

Hmmm, hope it's doing better today KC. My Maximas will close up due to shadow movement or light fluctuations, but they tend to open back up afterwards fairly quickly.

I wouldn't worry about it just yet. My first clam went through some fits in it's first couple weeks. It would stay closed up for a couple of days, then be wide open the next. After about 2-3 weeks, everything calmed down and now my clam is as happy as ever. I guess some just need more time to settle down than others.
