So I seen to be having issues with my new Hanna ulr phosphorus checker. A few days ago I used it and had a reading of 37 ppb and today my result was 2ppb. So I thought this ridiculous and retested, 0ppb.

Is it possible to get this kind of reading, the phosphates are being used up, or am i doing something wrong?

    Thanks for any advice.

Do you ensure to wipe clean (including finger prints) the cuvettes before testing? Did you tap them a few times to dislodge any air bubbles inside them?

I use the Hanna Alkalinity tester - and I get similarly wild variations in test results. I don't trust them anymore and have switched back to using Salifert test kits. Its frustrating because I like the idea of the Hanna testers...I just don't think they give accurate results.

I have only had issues with the Alk meter when I was at the bottom of the bottle of reagent. It did give a low reading at that point but that may have been a contamination of the reagent or shelflife of opened bottle on the batch, or just bad batch all together. I don't see myself giving up on the hanna alk meter anytime soon and would really like to get the phosphorus meter nailed down as to what is going on with it.

It is brand new out of the box, only used to test 3 times total at this point. Do you think this could be a problem?

I'll give that a shot. I am not positive my first result would have been correct at 37ppb. That amount should be detectable on salifert but wasn't detected. I would think 0-2 would be within the known variable amount. I have made changes since the 37ppb result but seems like a big change within 5 days.
