    Hi Everyone,

I posted a while back about having some green algaee on my sand bed. Well now it has gotten worse, and then worse. I have a 29 gallon bio cube and have done 2 15 gallon water changes in the past 2 weeks and stil no luck. I have cut feeding down to 3very other day and am changin media filter floss every 2 days. my lights are at 10k no green or red and running only 8 hours a day. I got a new skimmer to help with the bio load, did the eshopps 75h, love it so far. I was thinking about doing a reactor? My question is do you need a sump for a reactor, or can i just use it directly on the bio cube? Here is a picture of my tank.

The algae is even on the snails! looks like hari algaee from what i have read. the corals are doing good, LPS is puffy and full and the zoas are thriving. Got some Blue Tubs, Eagle, and Fruit loops on the white circle frag. My brother in law also gave me the them along with them mushroom on the sand. This picture was a couple of days ago it is a lot worse now! I clean the whip every day so the algaee does not hurt it..Need Help thoughts and opinions!!!!

    Thank you!!

I would start with gfo. Biopellets can also be effective but there are limitations and dangers involved with there use. Once nitrates are gone phosphates are no longer consumed meaning you would then need gfo anyway. Biopellets have to be tumbling just right or you can cause the production of hydrogen sulfide and/or a bacterial imbalance.http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1956395

Great sounds good! My nitrates are about 40 even after the water changes!

    Thanks again Vinny

Anytime! You may want to start a thread asking people what reactors they recommend. There are lots of new ones on the market right now.

I know this is a silly question but are you sure it's green algae? it looks like cyano in the picture.

Honesty its hard for me to tell, as i am colorblind. But my wife is telling me that is brown and green. there are no bubbles , and it does not look slimy. I have done 2 15 gallon water changes and that has not done anything to help.

the reason I ask is because you do treat algae differently than cyano - obviously nutrient control is key in your tank. I had a combination of algae and cyano in my tank and I treated the tank with chemi clean and it was very effective in terms of getting rid of the cyano. Cyano can be different colors besides red - does it blow off easily?
