Does anyone here soak fish food in garlic? If so, how do you go about doing this? Also is garlic able to be added directly to the aquarium? Does anyone know if this is an effective cure for velvet or ich? Any info is greatly appreciated as I am currently confused on how to get this ich in my tank under control. Thanks

It helps build their immune, but won't get rid of ich. I mix a little gg with Metranidazole and small pellets until coated with medicine then feed to the fish. Has worked pretty good for me so far.

i done it a couple of times. just put the food in a cup with it let it soak for a couple minutes before feeding. yes you can add it to the aquarium. no it isn't a effect cure for any thing. i think of it like vitamins. its good but it won't cure a disease.

I use it when i first introduce a fish so that i can add medicine. Some fish won't eat if they taste the medicine.

If it builds immune system it would basically be a preventative measure against ich and disease ? What would be the best way to cure ich without the option of quarantine? I'm stumped.

    Hello!
I do use Garlic with my food. I mix 1 cap of trace minerals with 4 drops of garlic and let the food soak for about 5-10 min before feeding. The garlic and minerals mix will help to strengthen the fish, but will not cure ich. Do you have a reef tank? I do , and recently had a bad run of ich myself. I found that using a product called Ich-Attack really helped matters. I also found great advice on this site, and is why I joined! Lots of luck!

95% of fish can fight of ich on their own when they come into contact with it. It's when fish becomes stressed that they are no longer able to fight it off. Keeping water params consistent and at good levels will prevent most of the stress that often causes our fish to become weakened to parasites like ich.

Also, regarding the individual who regularly doses Metronidazole into their tank- bad idea overall. Dosing any antibiotic directly into a reef tank is not a good way to go about things. Also, if your constantly feeding your fish antibiotics on a regular basis, they become quite resistant to the effects of the antibiotics. This means that when your fish actually do become sick or develop an infection- they have no chance in fighting it off. (You don't pop antibiotics on a daily basis do you? Neither should your fish.)

Never said on a daily basis, I'm talking about getting sick fish to take the medication internally.

Dosing antibiotics on a daily basis would not decrease your fishes response to antibiotic therapy, There is alot of news these days on resistance in organisms or bacteria. What happens is that most anitbiotics attack the bacterial cell wall and weaken it to the point that the immune system can take it from there. The problem with resistance is in the actual organism and not the host. This will occur when a bacterial infection is treated but not irradicated and thus when "re-infection" occurs the cell wall of the bacterium will be resistant to the attack of the antibiotic therapy. Resistance does not occur from people taking too many antibiotics, it occurs from them taking them improperly and/or not finishing a coarse of treatment because their symptoms get better and there are still a few bacteria lingering in the body/fish. Sorry, sometimes my background gets the better of me, I don't mean this in anyway negative, just thought I would throw it out there.
