Hey people! I was at my LFS today, and they have some incredible flame scallops, but I heard they are hard to keep. What all do I have to to to keep one alive. I have a biocube 29 with stock lights and a protein skimmer. Should I get one, and if so, what do I have to do?

They starve to death in most aquariums, they reguire a constant supply of marine phytoplankton, more than almost any home aquarium can support.

I agree with this. Few make it even short term.

You compromise your water quality in such a small tank to keep one long term (1 year).

Large older very established tanks have the most success.

Pass for the sake of not creating a market for them.

I agree with above. It's best to not purchase them and send a message to the LFS that they do not sell so leave them in the ocean.

    They are cool though

I bought one when I first set up my tank last year. Hes still alive but I never see him due to his hiding places. Kinda pointless. A rookie mistake, saw it and had to have it. I agree with all the above posts.

    You silly goose ;D

It was a valid question that many a poster has questioned.

I may be speaking or others but I for one would rather you do the research prior to buying most inhabitants.

Had I known or had there been forums back when I was interested in purchasing one I probably would have not bought one, but I did, in fact I bought about 3 before I realized my mistake.
