I just picked up a little Maxima today, kind of orange and tan looking. I liked that more than the blues I usually see. I got a good deal, and I'm pretty sure I can support it, but just wanted to double check.

I know it's eventually going to outgrow the tank, but I also have a 60G, and from there I can give it away or whatever.

38G Nuvo with the Skkye LED 30W light.
For the moment I have the clam on the sandbed, which according to the Skkye Par charts is getting 70-100 PAR.

I gave it room to open and everything, my Nitrates are great, and everything else in the tank is in check.

I'm just concerned about the lighting I guess, should I move it up? If I move it up, my only problem is it falling off or a snail/crab knocking it over.

If I move it up a bit, I can get it about 150-250 PAR. I have light flow in the tank as well.

    Thanks

Nice tank, I would watch it and see how react- then move it is necessary

Im not sure of my par rating but my Maxima has been at the bottom of my biocube since I got him and he seems to be doing very good. I have the Rapid LED retrofit kit

So it's been about 2 weeks now
It really isn't opening all the way, but it also looks "alright" to me.
    How we doing here?

Video - I'm concerned that there might be too much flow, as the sides flap a little bit.

I wish I could be of more help. But to me it looks partially closed up. Then again I'm used to my Tridacna being fully open all the time. [IMG]

IMO it looks fine, maybe a touch closed up but not bad. Mine closes like that every once and awhile. REsearch pinched mantle disease and pyramid snails as if she does have a problem, this will more than likely be the reason. I think my maxima just got pinched mantle and I'm treating her as we speak and she seems to be responding.

IMO though, that may be too low PAR for a maxima, but I HATE suggesting you moving it higher in the rock work. Mine kept bailing from there, so I keep it in the sandbed now so she won't jump again, but I have a lot more light down there.

Insufficient light presents very, very similarly to pinched mantle IME. I've found 150-200 PAR to be the absolute minimum for long term success with Maxima clams, in my systems. I would try moving it up and see if it opens up more in a few days. Also, if your planning to move it eventually, make sure it is attached to a small rock, you don't mind moving with it.
