I just picked up a 250 gallon tank with stand off of craigslist for 100 bucks;D
I was thinking about just going freshwater for now since its theoretically a little cheaper.Anyone have any suggestions for filtration?I was thinking about a wet/dry.I don't really have any experiance with freshwater though.the tank is not drilled.

I'd just go undergravel..especially if you're wanting it to be cheap! i put one in my parent's new 150 fw a couple months ago and it's working great

i always used both HOB bio-wheel filters and canisters in my big freshwater tanks. i never liked undergravel for the long term.

I also like the Rena XP4 filter. I know canister filters are pricey especially if going to a pet store but I found this filter on the new linens and things www.lnt.com website. paid $161.05 with free shipping... I have no problems or complaints with this filter. and if looking for a cheap substrate.. you can get river rock landscaping rocks from lowes or some garden centers... Filled my tank for less than $10! Hope this can help

I would definitely go with a cannister filter (or two, for a tank that big, depending on your bioload). Both the fluvals and the renas are good. Most people like the Eheims the best, but they don't have one single filter big enough to handle your sized tank, so you would need 2 of them (expensive)! Of these, I'd probably pick the Fluval FX-5.

I agree with canister filters, freshwater are what they are made for. Hate to see them used in salt lol.

Man 250g tank with stand for $100.. we better see pics!!!! Even if it is freshwater
