Had to take the leap. Everything was going great, then out of the blue, there is a lot of recession. Water is all good, it didn't make any sense. Broke out the flashlight at 3 am, and amphipods are mobbing every coral exactly in the areas of recession. Acans, favias, lobos, the base of newly fragged SPS, even the Dendro. Interceptor the tank, and one week later, everything that had receded is growing back. Everything that was doing good is doing even better. The Tyree Red Watermelon chalice popped out a ring of new mouths. It's like a night and day difference.

With feeding tentacles over 1 1/2 inches long, do I have to worry about the same aggression issues as other lps like Hydnophora?

Ooh, yeah. Looks like it's doing real good in your tank.

They don't reach anywhere near as far as hydnophora. But you need to be careful to make sure you have room for growth and that the species are of equal strength.

It responds well to feeding, I am actually kind of surprised.

Well that is good to know. If I turn off the pumps to feed the tentacle stay short, when I turn the pumps on they get really long. There was a lone majano sitting next to it in the sand and the Favia killed in within 24 hours.

Thanks guys. I just never even considered the aggression of this coral.

There you go, that's how you kill mojano's, move the Favia by it.

I've got a favia (alas, a different species than this guy) that'll put out 4-5" sweepers. I realized this when a setosa downstream began getting a few white spots. I kept moving the favia until it couldn't reach anymore (meaning new white spots quit appearing on the setosa ::)), which ended up being 5 or so inches.

holy moly, those are some long tentacles~! My favia's tentacles don't get anywhere near that long.

I think it may be related to how I feed it though. I turn off the pumps and then squirt it with a turkey baster...it really doesn't have to work hard to get its noms.

The next time I have insomnia I will set-up camp in-front of my tank and observe my favia!
