Everything is slowly dying… What could be wrong???

I added a bag to float in my aquarium for about 30-45 min. Then I started dripping aquarium water into the bag. Taking out part of in bag water every 15 min so it doesn't overfill. That lasted for atleast 2 hours. Then I took some rabble from my sump put it into a glass jar, added tank water to it, and added xenias to the jar. Placed it to the bottom of my tank and turned the lights off.

 

How are your water pentameters? Also, you mentioned earlier that you were getting a duel reactor. What are you running in that?

 

Do not try to figure out Xenia, it either grows or it does not. The only variable that made any difference for me was, my Xenia did not like an low nutrient system.

 

I didn't get a chance to test, algae has increased, but that could also be a result of rising temperature. It was awfully hot today and the temperature in the tank got up to 83.7. (This is after xenias died and has nothing to do with it)

Reactors are running GFO in one and Carbon in the other.

 

Do you have a fan you can put blowing on the tank. I read somewhere that the average ref temp is 82. But the fluctuation of more than 2 degrees is a bad thing. I don't know much about carbon or gfo so I can't say how that might play a part. I would suggest making changes in water chemistry a gradual thing.

 

Another suggestion for cooling is float a frozen water bottle in the tank. Your heater should keep the temp from going too low.

 

Just a quick update, everything is looking better, much better than before. However (perhaps ill open a new thread for this) the pH is still extremely high, on average it is around 8.8. I know you told me not to chase numbers, but this is extremely high. I started adding 60 ml of seltzer a day (10ml a time). And was bring it down by no more then 0.1 a day. When I stopped, pH went back up. I did a lot of research, and realized that pH of my tap water is 11. After it goes through RODI unit it becomes unmeasurable, but still shows 11. After I mix in the salt, and let is sit for 12-24 hours, it still shows 9. Obviously when doing a wc the overall pH of my tank raises. I thought perhaps my RODI was leaving chemicals in the tap, so I ran KH tests and TDS both showed 0. Once again I can't think of anything else I can/need to do.

 

PH is a common theme throughout your thread. In particular, high pH. PH tested high on distilled water. I question the validity of your pH test.
