What is the best way to cure an elegance coral of a bacteria infection. Ive read about making a doxycillin dip and dipping it for one hour a day for about a week but it is only available with a prescription. I found this stuff called fish mox which it says it is for bacteria infections in fish. Its amoxycillin in a capsule that i was thinking you could open the capsule and dissolve it in some tank water to make a dip. Does anyone one have any experience with fish mox, or know the difference between doxycillin and amoxycillin?

    Never treat in the display.

Antibiotics treat bacteria, your biological filter is bacteria.

For a coral you need to take it out and treat in another container. Elegance corals are extremely hard to treat for bacterial infections, it is usually just a matter of time.

Look at Iodine and CoralRX as treatments when bathing or dipping the coral.

You can give it a try.

Let us know how it turns out please.

Just like in animals/people certain antibiotics target certain types of bacteria (gram+/gram- blah blah blah).

Elegance corals succumb so easily to bacterial infections, what does the coral look like? Withdraw, bleached, bacterial mass visible on the coral?

It was withdrawn during the day and at night a couple little fingers would come out. That only happened for a couple days then it wouldnt do anything any more. It is a goner now the crabs started eating it then so i took it out. I was mainly wondering because I wanted to try another one but be ready just incase.

They just sometimes are a tough coral to keep.

I had them for years growing beautifully in a mostly LPS dominated tank. This was back early in my hobby days. Once I thought I had a clue as to what I was doing hobby wise I killed everyone I bought from that day forth.

Moderator Inwall posted sometime back that handling at LFS and shipped really contributes to their demise, small tears in the tissue often proves fatal. This coral has to be handled delicately and requires optimum placement.

In the wild it's often found in areas that experience some degree of turbid waters and without strong currents.

Ya figured i would give it one more try. I think it was my falt because it was opening for about three days but not as much as it did the first day and I was thinking it was getting too much flow and when I was moving it it sliped out of the tongs and landed upside doen. From that point on it was down hill, by the time I found any info out it about what was happening it was too late. Lesson learned. So to all newbies that might read this be very careful with your corals. lol
