I've followed all the helpful advice that people have given me but nothing seems to be working, I'm afraid. Today, the anemone has shuffled further onto the rock and is now facing downwards. I can see only one or two short tentacles protruding from the body... I've checked my water parameters and nothing has changes since I did them last week. With the exception that the Ph seems to have risen from 8.3 to 8.4. I test it with one of those probe devices rather than a chemical test and it has always seemed to give an accurate reading in the past.
The problem with the anemone now is that it is on the most difficult rock for me to access. To move it would mean dismantling a big chunk of my aquascape. Is it time to admit defeat and pull the rock out? It's now five days since the anemone closed up and everyone seems to be giving me the idea that 'pooping', splitting and all the other strange things they do are normally over and done with in a day or two...

I don't know what to suggest at this point Andrew. Mine have never hidden in a retracted state for so long. If you are concerned it is dying it may be worth moving the rock so you can inspect it and smell it. Supposedly if it is dying and melting it will smell bad. Either that or take the whole rock out and put it in a quarantine tank. I wouldn't try to pull it off the rock though. If it doesn't small bad I wouldn't throw it out.

Thanks for your help anyway... It's still moving around the rock - it's moved an inch or so since I last checked. If there's no change by tomorrow, I'll have to brave dismantling the rocks and fish it out. Absolutely everything else in the tank seems to be thriving so it's a bit puzzling. Got a grape coral in there and it has quite literally doubled in size in a month and the anemone seemed to be thriving too until about this time last week. With hindsight I suppose I should have waited longer before introducing it but the LFS said they were reasonably hardly. My water parameters have always been rock steady. We shall see what tomorrow brings.

I have been running carbon... Just checked it and it's pretty much expired so I'll replace it tomorrow.

It's now a week since the anemone went into hibernation... I'm slightly more optimistic now that it might be splitting. There was some movement of its body earlier, looked like it was stretching and the bulk now seems bigger than it was. Does anyone know how long the splitting process normally takes? Guy in the LFS today said a week still wasn't out of the ordinary...
