I don't know UV sterilizers well enough to recommend one. As a hobbyist (rather than a biologist), I can say everything I've heard is that most being sold are much too underpowered.

A lot of people have had success with peroxide dosing. I don't have an explanation for why it has worked for some and not others, but if I had a dino bloom in my tank I think I would give peroxide a try too.

Hello Pants, are you still interested in I.D.ing dinos?
I just pulled this out of the back of the tank. I've seen them shimmering back there for a while and decided to investigate. I have this sample in a bowl of salt water and I can send it your way if you are interested. Sending a pm. Thanks in advance.

I'm still around and still IDing dinos. Your photo looks like bubble algae and some other macro algae. That should be much easier to get under control than a dino. Water changes and an emerald crab should wipe that out quickly.

hmmm, my experience with bubble algae is that it's got more of a thicker "skin" to it. These bubble pop/release as soon as some aggressive flow hits them. Then also, the brown in the picture is really gelatinous, basically it cannot be grabbed onto. I usually suck it up out of the tank.

I can try and get better pictures if needed.

I was referring to Billme's photos. Yours, Zesty, do look like dinos. I'd love a sample too because the growth habit appears similar to the dino I haven't managed to get a species ID for yet. Its more mucousy than the other pest dinos, and often appears/starts as a blob in a very localized area. It is a very small cell relative to the other dinos. I could also mail something to you to help with it if you don't mind being a guinea pig.
