As some of you know, I had an outbreak of cyano that was almost uncontrollable over the last few days.

I decided to use a product that a friend of mine had used in his 60gal. It was called Red Slime Remover and is made by a company that i think is named Ultralife Reef Products. It was easy to mix and put in. It was a yellow powder that you mix with your existing water, and then pour it into the tank. It smelled very familiar to something Ive smelled before but I couldnt put my finger on it....

It clouded u my tank like crazy for a while. The tank was already a dark gray from some recent carbon addition, but the water changed to a greenish yellow with this product.

This morning I woke up and all of my cyano is gone. The sand is spotless white and even the cyano that was deeper in my substrate is gone too. I was suprised that it worked so well. It was about 17 bucks and looks like it can be used for another 5 or 6 applications.

Anyone use this stuff before??? I think its great. It worked better in my tank (20g) than it did in my friend's 60gal. He did see success from it too though.

Anyone heard of this chemical powder? Its called "Red Slime Remover"
Im curious for any side effects to experience. So far, none....

I have not used it for a very long while.... You HAVE HAVE to do a waterchange at least 20% after a couple days (I cant remember for sure) but it says so on the box. I also bumped up the oxygen level in the tank with extra power heads.

It is not safe for all fish and inverts however....at least that is what I was told. I had a seahorse tank that had a bad cyano outbreak and I had to remove the seahorses to my other tanks sump while it was being treated They worried that it would stress htem out too much.

Thank you for the advice. I was planning on doing a water change tonite. We did one a day later in my friends 60 gallon after treatment and it went fine. Ill let you guys know how the inverts, fish, and coral handle the treatment. They all seem happy so far....

I aquired a small container of this with a setup purchase.. was actully wondering the brand, etc. It says right on there: reef safe inverts, corals etc. - that's why I was so excited because all I knew of was chemi clean which is not safe. says on there it can affect PH and oxygen levels.

my brother just bought some for his 20G tank and it removed ALL his cyno, the sand is now crystal clear but after he turned on his skimmer.. after turning it off to dose.. there are little bubbles EVERYWHERE.. in my opinion, I think it poluted his tank pretty badly.. i have a little bit of a cyno problem but i'm not resorting to that... instead i bougth 2 koralia 1s and i put them closer down to my sandbed and it is giving my sandbed some flow which i think will help greatly

i would like to see how the bubbles turn out.. some bubbles for a day or 2 would be worth it for me sometime if i was in need of a reef safe cyano treatment.
