    Hi tom.n.day,

    Nice to meet you...

Uses for these PAR38 lamps, include: saltwater fish-only, reef, freshwater planted tanks, refugiums, sumps with macro-algae & mangroves etc...

We haven't had any reported incidents from past customers stating that the 2 red leds made the light too strong for usage, to where it caused photo-shock, or the bleaching of corals or live plants. These PAR38 lights are only 24 watts each. They can even be used over pico aquariums. Whether you choose the PAR38 that has 2 UV's or 2 Red LEDs is a matter of choice depending on your lighting needs, which should ultimately depend on what you have in your particular aquarium. It also has do to with aesthetics; some hobbyists prefer the reds over their freshwater planted aquarium, versus the UV's.

    Regards,
    OCReef
