Clownfish spawning!

So was just looking around the tank for my little mandarin when I see a slice of orange and my first thought is its a big bristle worm. Then I see my male clown come over and kind of mouth it. So then I pull the backing off the tank so I can get a good view and its a ton of eggs right under their anemone! So excited! I know they wont live but its still pretty cool!

 

That is indeed very cool. Goby and coral snack time! Nom nom nom.

Yeaaa believe this is the first spawn! So as I have read not very likely they would survive even in ideal conditions? Right? Gf of course wants me to save them. Lol

 

Takes a lot of practice to get it right. It's not an easy endeavor.
You need special tanks, special live foods.......it goes on and on and on. It can be done but it takes research and practice.

It's pretty easy to find rearing information on the net now a days. Member Pickle is one of my favorite resources. Joyce Wilkerson's book Clown Fish is great as well.

 

Yeaaa probably more then I am ready to handle right now. Maybe next time. Now that they spawned they should continue to do so regularly right?

 

Yes they will continue to do so about every 18-20 days. The eggs if healthy and taken care off will start to turn silver. They hatch in about 7-10 days. Not uncommon for the male to eat the first couple batches.

 

Cool! Maybe some where down the road ill have time to try and raise them

 

I'd be feeling the same way as your GF. I hope to eventually have my pair spawn and will try to raise them.
