Heres the deal. I was at a LFS today and there was a 5-6 inch Clown Trigger obviously covered in velvet. The manager of the store approached and asked if I was interested? I said no that fish will be dead within a day or two if he isnt quarantined. She said she didnt have a QT and asked if I wanted the fish? I said I am not going to pay for that fish. She said no take it you can have it. So I now have this huge trigger that is very sick. I have started him in cupramine at the beginning dose. 20 gallon long qt. Currently he is swimming about but looks very ill. If there is anything else I can do please advise. I would like to save this fish! Thanks!

By the way he was laying on the bottom of the bag just before I released him into the QT. I have some doubts about his survival but I dont know anything about Triggers and their characteristics. Please advise!

in this sort of scenario just tell the owner or manager to medicate the fish, a 7 inch trigger in a 20 gallon tank is not good. its most likely stressing him and therefore making the velvet worse. i do see where your coming from tho trying to save a fish. but you could take it back to the store or see if a friend has a larger quarantine or you can get a alrger quarantine and let it heal in there. i would say at least a 40 gallon quarantine for large fish such as this. with smaller fish even a ten gallon is usually suficient but not big fish like triggers

20 gallon is what I got. The LFS has no QT. She offered and I took it on the hope I can save it. If the fish survives the night I will move him to a 30. I need real advise on anything I am missing at the moment. I am aware a 20 gallon long is too small. But its bigger than what the LFS had him in.

Do Triggers often sit on the bottom of the tank? That is what the fish is currently doing. Just sitting upright on the bottom of the tank. I dont know if this is stress or death knocking at the door??? Please advise cus I dont know a lot about Triggers.

Velvet is very hard to treat. Usually once there are visual signs, it is too late. All you can do is medicate the water, feed nutritious food if it will eat, keep the water clean and hope for the best.

    Good luck!

this is as real as the advice gets, having him in a 20 gallon quarantine is not helping the problem. i know you cant do anythint to help him but i am just stating the obvious. as stated above velvet is very hard to treat so dont be surprised if he dies by morning. all you can do is keep medicating the water.

I believe it is. He is covered in thousands of tiny white spots and his scales appear transparent. Again I realize a 20 is too small I knew that taking him in but its what I got. Placing him in my 125 is not an option. Do triggers often rest on the bottom of the tank??
