Is this normal or harmful for a clam? This is my friends tank and his clam is now hosting the clowns. Its been going on for a good while now and the mantle seems to be out as much as it has been. Sorry for the bad picture but you can see it at least.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Not terribly unusual, it's probably fine for larger clams such as Derasa.

Clams will close immediately when bothered too much.

There is a thread on RC about a clam hosting a Ribbon Eel.

I think if the clam were bothered by it that it would close up. I saw a video of a clown that did this, but took it to the next level and would swim inside the claim.

found it, skip to about 50 seconds and watch from there.

At an LFS I saw a pair hanging out in an 18" clam. Clam didn't care at all. Did photo response when it's light was disturbed. Clowns bugged out but came right back.

Here is a pic of one of my clowns with a Derasa. Never seemed to harm the clam, but moved out once I added another clown. Now my neon green toadstool is their host.

Agree with what's been stated, but I've also seen clowns squished by closing clams before.
