    ok its my turn to get some answers hopefully

    It seems like my biggest chromis started acting weird 2 days ago he doesnt swim around like he did and hasnt eaten. he just sorta hangs out in one spot. thing is his color, fin, skin, eyes still all look good and hes still heavy (healthy looking). i watch him swim and he swam along the rocks like he was feeling his way around and he swam into another rock and into a coral almost like he couldnt see them. the tank has been going for almost 2 years now and ive only lost one fish out of it but this fish was one of the first i had gotten and was in my 39 gallon tank when i had it so its been well over 2 years. could it be old age or maby someting else has happened. his color is as green and blue as ever and he doesnt look sick. so this is one i cant seem to figure out any help be appreciated

    i have 5 of them and him and the other biggest one was always together like a pair. the other one seems to swim up to him and bump him or sit next to him as to say come on lets go. but he doesnt take off with his mate or the group. they try to get his attention but he doesnt swim to far.

    thank you for that page i read all the articles and theres 2 that sorta fit
    large old green chromis and green chromis blindness in the first one hes is sitting vertically not horizontaly and the 2nd one like i said hes bumping into things. ive had this fish over 2 years and he was full size when i got him so im not sure how old he is over all. i know when i got him he was pretty beat up marks on the side, fins bit up, and scared of everything. but was my first chromis and after i got him a buddy (the other large chromis i have) he became very active and less afraid and healed beautifullly. both of the large ones are about 3 inches the others seem to have stayed smaller. maby if it is a blindness thing he might adapt ill have to keep an eye on him and see if it inproves. maby i will try and target some food directly at him to see if  it gets his intrest. the other four are keeping a tight little group and keep checkin him out almost like they know sometings wrong.

    [glow=Brown, 3, 90%]Hey karla,

    I'm sorry about your fish. :'( It sounds like blindness, or maybe a swim bladder problem. Either way, it is probably related to the age of the fish (because I am ruling out anything like "water quality" in YOUR tank).

    I lost a peppermint shrimp a couple of nights ago. He seemed fine, just a little aloof, not as aggressive as he had been. I had him probably 18 months, and he was full grown when I got him.

    I think sometimes, karla, the animals we keep just grow old and die in our tanks. It is not our fault. We are doing our part by providing the BEST possible environment we can for them, while they live at our house.[/glow]

    I know you do that... [smiley=angel.gif] [smiley=2thumbsup.gif] [smiley=wave.gif]

    Sorry Karla, your prob. going to loose him. I've seen it many times with green chromis, tanked about the same amount of time. No idea what causes it, but once they stop eating, it all goes down hill from there. Don't be alarmed when the other fish start attacking the ailling chromis. I just watched this same deal transpire in the friends tank over the last 2 months. Just a week ago, the chromis finally lostr the ability to live, and all the others sensed it and begane attacking it.

    AS for full sized chromis, we the trade haven't seen those in many many years(well, some have trinkled thru, but wholesalling for $3 and retail for $10). You still can see some come outa Bali, Fiji and other remote islands. Full size is huge, you wouldn't belive how large they really get (w/o tail 4 inches long and 3 tall).
