I am picking up a glass tank with blue background (acrylic overflow)
i do not want the blue background and i was wondering if its safe to paint the overflow background with paint inside the tank

has this been done before? if so, what paint should i use that's fish safe?
    thanks:-/

I wouldn't paint anything inside of the tank... too paranoid about paint chips and chemicals..

I have to agree, I'd be concerned about it long term.

i think i remember hearing that krylon spray paint is reef safe once dried. I used it on a part of my plumbing that is partially submerged and have no problem. I dont know that i would paint an overflow inside the tank though... you will chip the paint every time you clean. The overflow will turn purple with coralline anyway and you wont have to see the blue ;) Coralline loves to grow on plastic.

You can also use epoxy paint.

Alternatively, you could always buff the backside of the tank, and effectively remove whatever color is there.

The krylon fusion spray paint works but it will chip after a while and urchins with eat the stuff off the walls lol. Not worth it imo it will be purple in a few months anyways :) lol

Acrylic tanks with blue or black backs can't have the color buffed off of them as the back pane is solid color thru and thru. That is, unless the tank in question began life as a clear-back tank and was painted at some point, which is easily discerned.

We have several acrylic tanks, and they all have black or blue backs except two of them. Acrylic has a couple of drawbacks, but on the whole, I prefer them to glass.

Based off the description, I had it as painted in my mind. But this is very true; it could be colored acrylic.

The OP would have to tell us; else provide a picture.
