Breeding Peppermint Shrimp Journal-Updated, Pairs Purchased

EDIT: Pairs have been purchased. So I got 3 big ones from one LFS (one is already pre-impregnated!) and another three from a different LFS. There is quite a size and pattern disperaty between the two, some looking more like camel shrimp! Oh well, I'll get the journal updated!

2 of the three in one group seem to have patterns more akin to the Camel Shrimp, although they lack the characteristic "camel hump".

I have never attempted at collecting Larvae, although I did get some spawning occuring.
First I plan on doing a starvation trial, get my pair into the mood. Then I want to try multiple things.
I will try Artemia as a first food.
Second will be newly hatched brine, once or twice a day after week 3-4.
I also want to try planktonic flakes as I have heard good things about this.

 

I'm going to try making a fry collector out of a breeder net, syphon tube, and LEDs.

 

I've never tried breeding anything. I don't have the patience for it. As a result, I rarely read anything on the subject. However, I think you're on the right path here. Light Traps are very effective for many species.

 

You should try domino damsels. Only fish that give parental care. Thanks, do you think I will need a smaller mesh size than a breeder net? Should I siphon into a filter sock?

I've read this. There is NO WAY I'm staying up to see the shrimp breed and try to catch them. They will not be forced into a net, siphoned into a basket instead.

 

LOL....I guess I don't really blame you.

My fire shrimp pair are part of my clean up crew and they also exist to feed my corals. I know that I don't have the patience to try and capture and raise their babies.
