It looks like my Brain Coral has succumbed to something as well. It has been looking bad for some time. It appears that it is now gone to join the many other corals in the oceans of heaven. Any idea what could have caused this? I do have a Coral beauty that was picking at it, but I can not seem to catch the fish without tearing my tank apart. I have a Red Sea Reefer 450 on order and as soon as it comes in I will be moving everything at which point the Coral Beauty will not be part of me tank.

I am posting here just in case it is tied in, in some way with the problem I have in my other "911" post.

    DSCF0419.JPG Again Thanks to all

Pretty sure it's that coral beauty causing your problem with this one. Had an emerald crab that would pick at my old torch and it pretty much died from stress and melted away. I would kick that sucker to the curb and drop his coral eating but at and lfs. Don't forget to let them know he's a coral eater!

What are your NO3 and PO4 levels? What type of lighting and how much flow do you have? Corals are fairly resilient to occasional nipping from fish if in the proper environment; I've seen cases where the coral was nearly decimated but grew back over the exposed skeleton once it's attacker was removed.

That coral can make a recovery. Are you feeding the coral. How is your water chemistry?

I agree, that coral is not a goner. Params and lighting info will help alot.

My nitrates are close to zero. (.5). Calcium is around 420. Salinity is 1.024, water temp is a constant 78.9.I do biweekly water changes. I have the new max spec gyre fan which seems to provide great water movement. I am using a Fluval reef ready LED strip. I was told the carol should sit on the bottom of the tamI.

I feed it using Roti Feast and also add Pohls coral revitalize r and plus each day. In addition I feed various types of shrimp, squid etc from defrosted frozen cubes. and spot feed near the coral. Every other day.

The coral beauty will be removed as soon as my new tank arrives-which I hope is soon. Several attempts to capture the fish had me going crazy and probably terrified the other livestock.

    Thanks for the feed back.

Your Alkalinity value and the degree with which the value is sustained without significant swings is going to be of the most value. Glad you're making an effort to feed the coral.

I will be changing it when my new tank(red sea reefer 450) finally gets here. I have had a deposit on it since early January, but with the dock strike, and now the weather in the NE it is taking a lot longer than expected. My dealer said he can not get a definite answer from Red sea as t when it will arrive, but I suppose the strike really messed things up for them as well as many others.

I have been enjoying this hobby for three years now and have been fortunate with very few casualties, I need to get that coral beauty ut of the tank since it seems he or she imay be cause of my sponge having issues as well.

    Thanks for all the replies.

Yes, dwarf angels do appreciate sponge as well as algae in their diet. While not an absolute guarantee with every individual,
it does tend to help curb coral nipping as well as aggression toward tankmates in most cases. :)
