I have my first coral problem and ofcourse its my favorite set of acans. Both have been in my tank over 4-5 months and they've been growing a lot, not just living. The past 4 days they have been shrunken up and don't look happy. I'm not sure whats going on here. I have four sets of acans and only two are having issues. Everything else in my tank is doing wonderfull. Could it be a possible parasite? I haven't added anything new recently and I dipped the acan to see if that helps. My regal tang has come down with ich a week ago, perfectly fine for months then bam! She's still eating very well and no other fish have been affected by it. I wouldn't think that would make the 2 acans unhappy. Any advice is appreciated, I'm really bummed out. My perams are as follows ↓↓

    PH-8.3
    Alk-11
    Ammonia-0
    Nitrite-0
    Nitrate-0
    Phosphate-0
    Calcium-460
    Magnesium-1380-1400

I wish I knew more about corals to help you SS but I don't think ich would affect acans. Did you see anything in the water after you dipped?

I didn't see anything but a few pods. I just don't get it. Everything was so perfect. I guess that's the hobby though. On a good note my clams are growing really well and my squamosa has been developing new blue spots :cheesy:

First thing to test is your salinity with a calibrated refractometer. If that is off, so are you're other parameters.

Also, your tang could be picking at them. Its fairly common.

Cleaner shrimp or hermits bugging them? Do you target feed?

I have had my small Acan colony close up for a few days before. No idea why, but came back like normal afterwords. When it happened, none of my other corals showed any signs of distress at all. I just left them alone, and like I said, back to normal after a few days. I know its not much help, but at least you are not alone.

Thanks marshall, that's what I hope happens. My params and other corals are great. My fish don't pick at any coral and with about 230 watts of T5 ATI lighting I know light is not the issue.I spot feed my corals twice a week and also dose some fuel for added nutrition. I'll just have to wait it out.

If tentacles are not out at night, or they don't want to eat, there may be a problem. I dont let that go for more than a day without giving the issue more attention. Its not normal behavior to close up that long.
