I love spontaneity, what are the chances that two geriatric men would like snakes too.
Snake bites are big thing here, I try really hard to be very aware since I am in their environment constantly. This am I saw the biggest rattler I have ever seen but it had been hit by a car.
Dogs and cats get bit quite a lot here but outcomes are rarely deadly.

Alligator lizards are awesome, I can not tell you how times I have been bitten by them. Some are beautiful but all are nasty.

I googled the town on your profile pic. You live next to a lot of wild country. I would be in heaven.

 

Wow, very impressive! I probably would have turned around and run away waving my hands in the air screaming, "snake! Snake! SNAKE, SNAAAAKKEEE!" Of course, when I told the story later on I would leave out that part .

My theory on fear of snakes and spiders goes as so: Inherited experiences of ancestors, genetic memory. Everyone has an innate fear of seeing an object that walks like a spider, 8 legs, or slithers like a snake or even a visual reaction to shape. Early man learned this behavior after being bitten and passed on the information (fear things with 8 legs or things that slither), avoidance, to succeeding generations or re-enforcement by exposure.
As with most things past on through generations some individuals might carry a stronger more intense genetic memory, those individuals can not even stand the sight of anything with 8 legs or anything that slithers, varying degrees of hysteria result with exposure, this reaction goes on to re-enforce the genetic memory.

Therefore Thor it's not your fault you scream like a little girl when you see a snake.

Actually when I was a very little guy growing up in Colorado I had a way to close experience with a western diamondback in my backyard which probably explains it more than anything.

Oddly enough, it was our cat (not the dog) that came to my rescue. Even more odd, that cat hated me! Craziest thing I've ever seen.

Now, why I hate spiders? I now have something else to blame it on other than just being a pansy!
