This is untrue. Newly mixed saltwater can be used as soon as all components are fully dissolved.

Sorry, but I disagree. This is a link from Instant Ocean Sea Salt that clearly recommends at least 24 hours before using.

http://www.f3images.com/IMD/UserManuals/AS9519.pdf

The pdf was from this webpage on MarineDepot.com. Maybe they made it up, maybe not. I would rather be safe than sorry.

You don't know just how true you are.

That explains it perfectly. Thanks.

I've used freshly mixed SW in my tanks for more than 20 years with nary a consequence. It was mixed until clear. I've never let it sit, although I've read that plenty of folks do. If there were chances of gill burn I would have plenty of losses by now.

As for the O2, although it's never a bad idea to oxygenate newly mixed water to the point of saturation, if your tank environment is constructed properly, even the most O2 depleted water added to a tank will become as oxygenated as the tank water in short order.

Take it all with a grain of salt. Whatever works for you. Irrespective of all the expert information out there, experience will never lie.

Of that I totally agree. Or, should I say, there's more than one way to skin a cat.

Since Reeron has seconded the anal retentive comment before I could, I will happily third it. The OCD reef keeper is the successful reef keeper.

Oh yeah!!! I have well over 60 DAYS experience to put up against ya!!! And a lot of book learnin' (One book).

AND I consulted with a few teenage employees at the local pet store (that knew next to nothing about saltwater).

I think I'll stop now. I'm digging myself pretty deep.
