Default Skimate after water change...?

Does this happen to anyone else...

After water change with IO, my skimmer goes nuts for couple of hours and I get about 1/2 gallon of watery, greenish skimate in collection chamber. (30 gal change)

Did with Reef Crystals this a.m. and got about a gallon of the stuff...

Wondering if normal, or possibly due to water conditioner I use...

Omard,
I wont begin to explain why as I do not know.
What I do know, is every time I do a water change, add any type of additives, or anything else, I noticed the skimmer goes nuts. Sometimes needing to empty the cup once or twice.

I had asked in an earlier thread, if the skimmer should be shut off for the additives. Oh and when I put in the Kordon water conditioner, it goes nuts. My guess is yes or else you are risking the additives being cleaned up.

As for water changes. If I do a water change with my regular water and Red Sea salt, the skimmer goes nut for an hour or so.

If I do a water change with the natures ocean live water, then it does not.

So I dont know what the answer is but I suspect it is working for a reason. The BakPak mentions that any time the waters surface tension changes as in water changes, the skimmer will appear to work overtime.

\Cheers

No other responss on this ??
Come on. I was hoping for some good feedback here.
I have been struggling with this as well.

A few threads ago, I started unplugging the PS when dosing, changing water or anything and it seemes to help.

I hate the thought of putting in doses of vitamins, chems or anything, just to have them cleaned out.

Someone else must have some stories on this...
