| Seachem's Alkalinity Test Kit Ok, so I got the Seachem's Reef Status Magnesium kit today...in it, there's an Alkalinity test kit...but I'm having some trouble with the results.
Does anybody here have a Seachem Alk. test kit? The part that confuses me is how to read the syringe. Do I look at how much titran liquid's left and count from the bottom of the syringe to where the liquid is or do I look at how much I've used and count from the top of the syringe to where the liquid is??? |

| Going from memory, it's the latter. I'll have to confirm when I am at home though.
Maybe someone has it handy. |

| I have the kit, for every cc of liquid (titrant) you use equates to 1 meq/l.
S if it took 5 cc's to turn the sample blue then your total alk is 5 meq/l.

Jim | Let me get this straight....I start adding drops until the sample turns yellow..blue is the starting color....once it turns yellow, I read how much I've used or read how much titran I have left?....let me put it this way...I hold the syringe in the upright position and look at where liquid is in the syringe and read? |

| If you use 1 cc it is 1 meq/l. Which means there is 9 cc's left in the syringe

| I have the Seachem kit.
First, fill the pipette to base of bulb, and put it in the test plate.
Second, keep adding drops, one by one, until the color turns from BLUE to YELLOW. Keep track of how many drops.
Third, calculate, each drop equals .5 meq/l.

| Correct.. So if it took 8 drops to go from blue to yellow, your total alkalinity would be 4 meq/L. |

| Just remember, each drop is half a measure of meq/L. |
