Question Screw in rubble

Just a quick question for anyone out there, I bought 40lbs of rubble last week and found a somewhat rusty screw mixed in with everything. I called the provider and he informed me that it would be fine (better that I found it, but fine anyway) it would just rust away and not change the chemistry of my water at all. I use RO/DI water and stress coat to keep heavy metals out of the water. So is he right nothing would have happened or should I get more than two free corals?

Hmm...Is this "live" rubble or are you going to be cleaning the rubble? if you clean it...there....shouldnt be a problem...hmmm that would scare me a little....but i agree with him thats its beter you found it. IMO rusting in the water would not be fun for your critters If this is live rubble and your not going to clean it ....i would get some new rubble...dont risk it

It's supposedly alive though I have yet to see anything that supports this, maybe in time though.

Hmmm. When you purchased the rubble, was it in a bag? If so, was it dry or wet? If it was dry, then its not live and you need to rinse it very well. If it was wet then its live...since it was just a screw and you did take it out...there shouldnt be a problem. You get 2 free corals out of the deal? Thats always good

I already put the stuff in my tank and took out the screw (the one I found) there also was a old rubberband in there too (got it out). I paid a hefty price tag for this stuff and I feel like I got scammed. I'll give it a few more weeks and see. Thankfully I don't have any livestock. Thanks

It was somewhat wet, we'll say pretty damp. Not dripping water or anything.

I don't think it is a major problem like if you had copper in your water. Fortunately you found the screw so it doesn't affect your water in the long run or end up in your finger down the road>!

Ya i agree also. Because with ship wrecks...the enviornment suffers but once the gas and such is all gone...the metal makes nice man made reefs
