| Salinity level for best SPS growth What is the most beneficial salinity level for the fastest SPS growth and greatest coloration? I read that a level of 1.0255 may hurt SPS growth. Any opinions? |

| I thought Natural Seawater was at 1.027 so why would 1.0255 hurt coral growth? |

| Because natural seawater is...well...natural. The stuff WE generally have is synthetic. I keep my SG at 1.023 to 1.024 and have had SPSs grow wonderfully.
However when I lived in San Diego, the LFS I went to sold natural seawater. MAN that stuff was great!!! Talk about ZERO algae! That was the cleanest I've ever seen my tank _________ 125 Gal Reef. | With NSW it all depends on the location and time of yr the sample was taken.. There is little if anything natyral about a reef AQUARIUM.. _________ Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible (Doug Larson) |

| We actually checked the salinty once in FL at different depths. 1-3" was 1.026, 10' was 1.025, 20' was 1.025 30' was 1.023 we only went about 45feet and it 1.023-1.024. Which all makes sense cause the water evaporate at the surface so it would be more concentrated there.
FYI, we carried hydrometers in ziplock bags and opened them at desired depths to test it.
My salinity flucuates from evap, and I have EXCELLENT growth. I try to keep it around 1.023-1.024 though _________ Got Questions? Need Answers? "Believe those who are seeking the truth; doubt those who find it." Andre Gide |
