Default RO Question

Just spent the last our cleaning out my 50 drum that I use for my RO water. I noticed recently a white film building up, looked like mold until mold actually grew on it.

Anyway first time I have seen this and was wondering if anyone knew what it was and/or how to prevent it?

Also should I have a power head in the drum to keep the water circulating? And should the top be open or shut?

Do you keep the R/O unit outside or inside? You should have a PH in the drum and I would keep it covered, esp. if the drum is outside. Luna

Was the film slimy or was it hard to get off? I get a lot of mineral build up on every thing I use for my tank if I let it sit for a while. I have never noticed it growing mold though!

It is inside.

So the powerhead should be in there and I assume it will help keep the oxygen dissovling in the water but then wouldn't covering it up defeat that purpose?

Wasn't hard to get of and it wasn't slimy. I didn't do a good job describing it either because it started on top of the water and only got on the walls as the water was drained out.

So it was like a film on the top? Keeping it covered would help if something is getting in there.

Having a power head is a good idea if the water sits there for any amount of time much over a few hours.
