| You don't need much per day to sustain the water level. My 46+10g sump looses a little less than 1 gal per day. When you fill the tank, or do a water change, that's when you need the large volume. If you do a 10%w/c then it's like 5-6gal there.
I would say that just about any RO unit should work for you. It just might take a day or two to get enough water to fill the tank for the first time. _________ 1 true-percula & 2 fox-face firefish. 46-Bow w/ 20gal as sump. DIY wet/dry and DIY overflow. Coral Life skimmer. QuietOne return pump. Eheim ProII canister (just in case my DIY stuff fails). 36" Nova Extreme (2x39w 10k, 2x39w actinic with a fan loud enough to drowned out the noise from the tank) 48lbs. LR. Tank 2 is a 55G Fresh Water w/ 4 Discus. Tank 3 is a 10G fresh with Tetra. |

| So I could buy the 25 gpd and save alittle money compared to buying the 50 or 75+ units. With a auto shut-off it will quit making water when full, plus I may want to get some in a gallon jug and put in the frig for my refreshment. |

| This is the one I purchased. I have it hooked to my washer's cold water supply using a y to split between the washer and the ro/di. I don't have an auto cut off yet but, will get one in the near future. Here's some pics of the installation. It's very easy to hook up, the directions were scarey, but I figured it out. I use it for top-offs, water changes, watering my outdoor plants and my dog's water. It seems to help my one dog from itching so much and their water seems to stay fresher longer outside. I guess 'cause no phosphates and junk in it.
hope it helps!! eBay: New Reef 6st 100GPD Reverse Osmosis RO+DI Water Filters (item 120111337850 end time Apr-26-07 20:21:46 PDT) |

| Hello,
The GPD usually depends on the water change amount as stated before. Please keep in mind that pressure and temperature play a big factor in the GPD rating. If it gets cold where you live and your water's temperature drops down to 40 degrees, you'll be making 1/2 of the GPD rating. |

| I picked up one of these www.airwaterice.com TYPHOON III AQUARIUM REVERSE OSMOSIS DI and I love it. You get a free TDS meter and I also purchased a 10.2 gal reservoir so I would have a large quantity of water immediately. You have to remember that even a 100 gpd unit is only going to trickle water out and one time or another you will turn it on to gather water for a change in a large container and forget that it is on....then guess what happens! You will be replacing carpet flooring...etc. It will happen one time or another. _________ Scott 265g (Peninsula)

| Uh, or 10 times if you're like me and constantly forget that you've left the RO unit on. My wife had a wierd look on her face last night when I sprung up from the couch and did the 100 yard dash for the basement... _________ Kris

Now, with everything being automatic, I don't have to worry about it. |
