Default to kalkwasser or not to kalkwasser

Ok so everyone else seems to use the stuff- I've been using Sea-Chem Calcium, Alkalinity and Buffer for a few years with great success- am I missing something? Are there any advantages in changing over? I am always a little nervous about making changes in my water chemistry so any info you guys have would be great- thanks

If you are having success with what you are doing-DON'T change it!!!If it isn't broke don't fix it! Kalkwasser is a European technique which requires more work than the method you are using. Kalkwasser is an awesome way if adding calcium to your water. Many people use this method as oppossed to to a calcium reactor which to me is the ultimate way of increasing and maintaining optimal calcium levels.
I have had much success going about adding calcium etc. the same way you are now.
Again, if it is working for you now-stick with it unless your calcium levels aren't where they are suppose to be or are very sporadic-then maybe try switching!!!

Kalkwasser also helps keep you pH up (just don't add it fast!). I have a love hate relationship with it. I don't like that I had to stir it up a lot to keep it from caking and I didn't like having to clean my pumps so much. But the tank looked great. So it was give and take.

But I have to agree with coral reefer, if it ain't broke.......

I was having a problem with PH till I started dosing kalk and now it pretty much stays @ 8.3 except for the early morning @ 8.0. I add 1-2 teaspoons to 1 gallon water in a gallon conatainer, shake well, let settle for a few hours and pour into top-off container. Haven't had any problems with build-up and coraline has bloomed dramatically. Water quality is much better and no undesirable algae has shown itself.
