I Know topped off with just plain r/o water after taking out 20 litres, hence my drop in salinity...But thanks anyway...so is the above good or bad personally i think i could do with lowering my salinity & nitrate a bit more...

If the Salinity is dead balls on at 1.025 with a known accurate Refract. then I'd say leave it there as for the NO3's ? Two sided sword really in a soft coral tank with Clams and other filter feeders then the NO3's are a source of food for many animals. 10 is nothing to panic over but maybe test your make up water from Nitrates also.. The R/O water should be tested every few months to make sure the membrane is not saturated either.. R/O units can grow and store all kinds of nasty things .. Especially if its used like many do run out a few buckets and then let it set for a few days to weeks . Every nasty bacteria and what evers are just left to grow wild in the membrane and housing . Anyone who stores their units should keep the membranes refrigerated when stored.

when I sample fish in the gulf, we take all kinds of hydro readings... salinities are always in the 30-34 range in the summer.. 20-24 in the winter. You can acclimate organisms to different salinities easily. adding saltwater or fresh over a period of hours.
