What are the levels and how old is the tank. How big is the tank and what are the inhabitants?

John

_________

The organization is like a tree full of monkeys, all on different limbs at different levels. Some monkeys are climbing up, some down. The monkeys on top look down and see a tree full of smiling faces. The monkeys on the bottom look up and see nothing but a&&holes.

Did you see the Nitrite level drop to zero before introducing the fish and now it has gone back up again?

The tank is 10 gal. I tested the water a little after putting the fish in. The test that I have is a little stip with colores on it and when dipted in ware you see the colores on a chart, it test the nitrate, nitrite, alkalinity, and pH. Its the best test out their.

Well, I really doubt that you have a Nitrite reading at all. I would suggest that you take a water sample to a LFS and get it tested or try another test kit.

Oh OK :-)

I really think that you should somehow confirm the reading as it doesn't sound right to me. Either through a LFS or maybe if you know somebody with another kit.

The reason I say that is that the bacteria that convert Ammonia to Nitrite do so at a very fast rate so it would be quite unusual to have a Nitrite reading in a cycled tank.

Let us know how it works out :-)
