Best Filter Setup

I am going to start my 240 soon and i want to make a canister filter to remove all the nitrates phosphates and other bad stuff. i want some thing i can set up and leave for a month or two as a maintenance system so i do not have to worry about Algae outbreaks and have good clean water. i have looked at things like a pura complete, seachem and brightwell. They all make lots of stuff, so what do you think is the best setup. Should i run a carbon and a phoslock and a nitratelock or the phosphate and Nitrate sponge or a complete media. i just do not know how or what to go with to get the best results. All info and personal experience appropriated. i will be running a 240 display with a 70 sump and a 10 refug. i only run soft Corals and would like to have a ton of fish if possible. Why are you going to add a mechanical filter ? I have a skimmer set up that allows for all the water out of skimmer to pass through a hang on the inside of the sump acrylic box with Carbon and floss in the same box for the skimmer outlet water to run through. Thats all I use for mechanical filtration. You will have have a sump on this size system and the refugium really needs to be about a 20 gallon rather then a 10 gallon capacity . The refugium will allow for solids to settle out from the water as you very slowly flow water through it also. With all soft corals you really do not want to filter the water to much as remove the soft corals main food source ..

I'd also add a reactor to run the Rowaphos for PO4 control and as for Nitrates just set up a coil denitrater if you need it as the refugium if sized properley and with the correct amount of sand and flows that should take care of all nitrates .

ok so i think i am going to run seachem seagel and purigen. they promised that the aluminum in the seagel would not hurt my zenias or anything else. i may be to worried too much but i just do not want to have any problems. i will have about 500lbs of live sand and about 300-400lbs live rock. my sump will be 70 gal i have 2 skimmers i octopus hangon that is rated for 200+ and a euro reef that is rated for 150+. so myskimmers should be good. then on my return over flow will be split to go to the canister filter with the seachem media and some pillow media then the rest to the sump refug. i will have the 70 baffeled for sump and refug ect and will also run a 5g refug on the top for copods for my maderin dont think the pods would make it through 2 3000gph pump. so let me know what you guys think. i love to hear what other people have experenced. If u are going to have a refugium, why all the sand?

i just want to be carefull and i know the sand will do the job for long haul but i do not want any initial problems moving from 150 to 240. i hope that the tank cycle is short, basically a big water change.

i see where ur coming from with the sand, when i upgrade to my 90 i will have about 200 pounds ahha, but i just like the deep sand bed!

so has any body used seachem and how do they like the products? would like to use them just would like to hear what everybody thinks before i do the switch from kent

Use what has been working best for you. If Kent has been good, then stick with that.
I used only the seachem phospate remover and reefbuffer so far.

do you have any zenias in your tank? some people say that the phosphate remover is made with a little aluminum and will leak into your system and kill things like zenias. seachem customer support said that it would not leak off the product and she her self uses seagel the carbon and phosphate combo and she has a huge bunch of zenias.
