Alk test kit

I got a jungle quick dip test kit with an Alk test which is what I got it for. I thought Alk was supposed to be read like 9 DKH. This test kit reads Alk as total alkalinity (KH) ppm and it says 0-120 not desired and 180-300 desired. Is this OK or do I need to take it back.

reefman I am not sure how to convert KH ppm to dKH. However I can tell you how to convert KH meq/L to dKH. Maybe that will help you figure it out until I can find something on it or someone chimes in.

1 meq/L corresponds to 2.8 KH.

Looking at my bottle of Kent Marine Pro Buffer dKH, Reef tanks should have alkalinity in a range of 2.9 to 4.0 meq/L (8 to 11 dKH).

They mention that a fish only tank should have a range 3.5 to 5.5 meq/L (or 10 to 14 dKH) which I didn't know.

I don't know how accurate those kits are. I like my seachem and you may find a good price on salifert kits out there too..

Found it...

1.0 meq/L= 2.8 dKH = 50 ppm

So you want to shoot for 200 ppm which would be 4 meq/L or 11 dKH.
