Default Yellowheaded jawfish Requirements

Hey all, I plan to get a yellow headed jawfish sometime in the future. Was just wondering what their requirements are. I know the sandbed is most important and that they should be kept with peaceful tankmates. The depth of my sand bed varies from 2 to 4 inches with a bottom layer of about an inch and a half of black "fine marine substrate" and about a 2-3 inch layer Caribbean live sand argonite (sand mix with some small crushed shells and such). I have alot of the ladder left over (don't even know if its ok to use, seeing as its not live anymore, if its ok i would assume i just rinse it like normal substrate). I've heard they like a layer of crushed coral but not sure about that. So if anyone has any suggestions as to how to make a jawfish feel more at home and happy please suggest away!

Thanks!

lots of small foods, and they need to be directly fed, as many fish will eat all food before a single piece gets near them. Very rewarding to keepthough

They pretty much build their own home. If there is not enough substrate they'll use the side of a rock. My LFS has a blue spotted and he only has maybe an inch of substrate tops. His is doing great and is right front and center of the tank under a small piece of rock! Really cool fish and good choice!

Evan.

Make sure that its tankmates are peaceful, if not they tend not to be as active (including eating). I have had mine for going on 3.5 years, since I got my new serpent star, about 8 months ago, he has not been eating well, very skinny. Up until then it ate like a horse, even challenged tankmates for food near the top. As for substrate I have used crushed coral, sand, fine crushed coral, and pieces of shells, nothing really bothered it.
