Could be a Cirrhilabrus flavidorsalis: *This is a picture from searchfishbase.org, I sure wish I had my own camera!

Will see if I can get a closer look tomorrow to confirm. *I believe it is a female.

Craig,

Alot of fairy wrasses look similar to your picture when they are young or juvenile. That same pinkish hue, yellow eyes, and a dot.

Do you see any kind of pale blue lines around the face?

I'm taking a guess here but you may have a very young lineatus fairy.

See page 34 of Kuiter's "Fairy & Rainbow wrasses" book.

Other possible candidates that can look almost exactly like that:
Tono's fairy
Katherine's fairy
Pink-Margin fairy

Does he appear to look young or full grown? If its the flavidorsalis they don't get very big (max 3-3 1/2&quot they are very similar in size to a lubbock's. However, the flavidorsalis tends to have more of a light orange hue.

Can you post some more pix?

Hey Orlando,

That pic Craig posted is a photo of Cirrhilabrus flavidorsalis from fishbase.org (he should have given credit ). I doubt very seriously that he has a lineatus unless he paid big $$$ for it (and knowing Craig the way I do, I don't think he did that ).

I believe that Craig probably has a C. rubrisquamis, or C. rubriventralis since they are more common in the hobby and look very much like the pic he chose (particularly the C. rubriventralis).

BTW, welcome to 3R !!! Please feel free to join us !!!

Thanx Wrassman and Orlando.

Sorry bronco7777 for hijacking your thread.

The fish was only $12 and there were 4 or 5 similar looking fish in the LFS nano display and they were just listed as female Fairy wrasses. They had been in the nano display a couple of weeks so I knew they were pretty hardy and healthy.

Got it just before closing time and really didn't look at it before they caught it for me. This was the biggest specimen and when I was acclimating it had about a 1/4" dorsal fin display.

Lights are still out and it went into hiding right away last night, so I haven't been able to get a good look. I will report back later when I have the opportunity to view the cute little bugger.

Those were the other fish that that I thought were possibilities but with the limited info. I have, this is fun being the detective, the coloring and body type in the picture most closely match my fish. I am pretty sure though it does't have the black dot so I'll see when I see.

Was just up and while the lights are still out, I could see the wrasse in the diffused morning light. Definitely no black dot, so not flavidorsalis.

Very orange with white underneath. Small flat dorsal fin 1/4" when raised. The closest picture I could find via search was this female solorensis from WetWeb Media.

{b]Well now, just up and viewed the new wrasse and lo an behold, ye old black dot can be seen! So I'm very sure this is Cirrhilabrus flavidorsalis! Not quite as impresive a fish as bronco7777, but looks good in my tank![/b]
