I've read this about vitamin C, it was my first step to try to combat my ICH issue. It did help some, but nowhere near as much as garlic helps;
this is just from my experiences only. UV light doesn't even come close in effectiveness either. I will agree that they are much more prone to ICH if stressed. However, I have removed my heater from the tank for over a month, which gave way to 5-6 degree swings on a regular basis (24 hours). The only ill effected creature in my tank was the toadstool mushroom. The swings would range from 75 to 81F or so, every day on a regular basis. Please keep in mind this is my experience, in my tank; temperature alone doesn't seem to have a major impact. I can confirm the use of garlic in at least two other tanks that helps play a major role in the health of the fishes.
Your mileage may vary, but I strongly encourage anyone who reads this thread to give this a try.
PS: my food mix does not include blood worms. (sorry about the messup)
-Krill
-Mysis shrimp
-Phyto plankton
-Squid
- 5-6 drops of garlic extreme
Feed approx 2cc of this in the morning and evening for 5 fishes.
No I don't work for kent, lol. One of my friends uses crushed garlic juices from the local grocery store too with the same results, if you don't want to spend the $ on fish-geared garlic.
