Tangster, their are a few nice small polyped stonies that you can go with that are very easy to gorw and keep long term! Montipora Digitata, Pavona, Pocillipora and Porites!
You may want to give them a try!

Tangs + ICH problems = use garlic

I'll bet you $20.00 that if you start using food that is soaked in garlic you will see drastically less problems with your fish and ICH. I have a powder brown and hippo in a 90 gal (among others).

I used to have all the symptoms here and gone fishless before, for a month. None of that works as well as soaking your food does. I mix frozen cubes (one each) of mysis shrimp, phytoplankton, squid and blood worms in a 50cc bottle with 6 drops of garlic extreme to make one batch of food. I feed small amounts twice daily but never overfeed, works like a charm. Also keep seaweed strips in your tank for tangs to nibble on. When they get hungry they get stressed and are much more prone to disease/infection.

Just keep the water parameters and Temp's it as stable as possible ich is just a stress related issue and will pass unless there is complications with a secondary infection like a common cold that can turn into a infection or pneumonia . Then you need more then rest and warmth and liquids (: And thats all I could ever compare ich to as a human we get stressed ran down lack of sleep and we get colds as our immune system weakens and if you want to boot the system even in fish its been proven vitamin C is the best way. But not the tablets we use (: to much unwanted sugars and fillers in it will cause algae issues.

I've read this about vitamin C, it was my first step to try to combat my ICH issue. It did help some, but nowhere near as much as garlic helps; this is just from my experiences only. UV light doesn't even come close in effectiveness either. I will agree that they are much more prone to ICH if stressed. However, I have removed my heater from the tank for over a month, which gave way to 5-6 degree swings on a regular basis (24 hours). The only ill effected creature in my tank was the toadstool mushroom. The swings would range from 75 to 81F or so, every day on a regular basis. Please keep in mind this is my experience, in my tank; temperature alone doesn't seem to have a major impact. I can confirm the use of garlic in at least two other tanks that helps play a major role in the health of the fishes.

Your mileage may vary, but I strongly encourage anyone who reads this thread to give this a try.

PS: my food mix does not include blood worms. (sorry about the messup)
-Krill
-Mysis shrimp
-Phyto plankton
-Squid
- 5-6 drops of garlic extreme
Feed approx 2cc of this in the morning and evening for 5 fishes.

No I don't work for kent, lol. One of my friends uses crushed garlic juices from the local grocery store too with the same results, if you don't want to spend the $ on fish-geared garlic.

Regards
