It could be going nocturnal on you. Eels have crappy eye-sight and rely on a superior sense of smell so night time is good for them.

I'd test the water just to be sure. If the water is cool, you could probably feed it more often. They don't mix too well with damsels or anything that will fit in their mouth as you probably know, so a hungry eel is kinda dangerous in a fish tank.

And thanks for joining!

I tested my water and it seems good to go. *My pH is 8, nitrate 10, and both nitrite and ammonia is 0. *Salinity is 1.022. *You're probably right about him going nocturnal. *Thanks for the help.

Here’s a story for you all. I was on my computer and looked over at my aquarium and noticed something very odd. My snowflake eel was IN my protein skimmer. He was swimming around in it. I unplugged it and quickly dumped him back in the tank. I'm theorizing that he went up the lip where the water goes back the tank. He's fine now and has a healthy appetite after his swim in the venturi action. Sneaky little bugger.[smiley=sneaky.gif]

Eels are great escape artists and can get out of most tanks if not properly sealed with a glass or acrylic top. Great story! Maybe you can post a pcture of your adventurer, eh?

The adventure continues. . . The feisty little bugger [smiley=devil2.gif] attempted to escape yet again. I was talking to my roommate and turned around and saw the eel on the floor a good 4 feet from the tank. I scooped him up cleaned him up and tossed him back in the tank. I had my protein skimmer hanging of the front of the tank (the common reason, not planning ahead when placing tank) and the lid was of course part open. He got through my jerry rigged foil barrier and took a leap.

He seems fine now, breathing hard though. Well, I finally got off my butt and took the effort of moving the tank so the lid could rest firm against the tank. The tank is pretty secure now. That was one heck of a leap.
