Sea Horses

I started a new tank for seahorses, any one have any experince with them?
I have a pair on reserve at the lfs that eat frozen( i've seen it happen) and have been at the store for several months

They need a low flow tank with no aggressive tank mates whatsoever. Provide lots of macro algae or other suitable perches. Filter the heck out of your water because of the feeding and flow requirements and do frequent water changes. If you get a breeding pair, be prepared for lots and lots of breeding. Mine bred every 19 days or so but raising the babies is a whole other can of worms.

I gave them up because of their breeding habits and special needs. I just couldn't let the males release the babies into the main tank to be eaten by the fish and corals. Call me a sucker but those little guys are simply too cute to be gobbled up! I tried rearing the offspring in a separate tank but if you've read anything about how to raise seahorse fry, you'll know how difficult and time consuming it is. Also, the males kept getting pouch infections and I simply didn't have time to deal with all of that at that time. You also have to make arrangements for someone to feed your tank daily if you go on vacation seeing as they only ate live or frozen mysis shrimp.

All that being said, I might keep them again some day, when I have more time, space and money to try rearing the babies.
