What are your water parameters? If your water quality is good, there should be minimal algae growth

Perhaps there is a problem with the water we could help with first?

In your sig (under your profile) if you could add what your tank specifics are, size, lighting, animals, filtration, etc. we can try and help you out!

There is little you can do for clean up. Now matter what you need to maintain your tank but I can give you some tips.

Frequent water changes with RO/DI water will reduce nitrates and Phosphates which algae thrives on.

A refugium with Macro Algae is a natural source of exporting nutrients.

I purchase large quantities of snails and hermits at low prices. My puffer appreciates this and it takes him some time to wear the population down. This may not work with a large puffer.

I have heard that if you add a multitude of empty snail shells and then add snails and hermits the puffer might over look them thinking they are empty.

Large turbo snails are probably more than an average puffer can handle. Mine dosen't even touch them.

Keep in mind I have a green spotted puffer that has a max size of like 5 inches.
