| Need fish advice!! All you have to do is ask for advice in a title and you get hits!! So to my issue... I am looking to add a new fish to my tank. So far I have 2 false percs, 1 emerald crab and snails. This addition will be the first in a line of several additions, so nothing aggressive. My wife wants something colorful, and I am trying desperately to get her into the tank (not literally!), so that would be helpful. I really would like to only add things that do something for the tank from here on out (clean, eat algae, anything) so that would be a plus but not necessary. Keep in mind my tank is only a little over 3 months old, so this limits certain things. I'm all ears, let me hear some suggestions!! _________ 55 gallon reef aquarium, 85 lbs. live rock, 2 1/2" sandbed, False Percula Clown & Foxface, Tetratec PF500 filter, 2 110 watt URI Super Actinic VHO actinics, 2 250 watt metal halides with Reef Optix 2 reflectors powered by Blue Wave 3 ballast Born 1/3/08 My Tank Thread My Tank Video

| Blennys clean your tank of algae, most are peaceful - but there not really colourful.
Pipefish are colouful and far from aggressive.
The most colouful fish are angels and tangs - but your tank should be at least 6 months old for one them.
Wide variety of gobies to choose from! Neon's are cleaners.
The choice is endless _________ |

| Neon gobies are awesome, they clean fish of parasites(I've seen it) and would fit in a 55g.
Any kind of Goby would be good.
Tangs are great at eating algae, but Theres the issue of size of tank, some ppl dont care about size, so it depends on you.
Blennies are good too.
I dont recommend pipe fish b/c they're are hard to keep and feed. Very delicate fish, much like seahorses. _________ 9YR OLD 90G/55g custom sump/refug Mag18 Aquac 180skimmer 692w MH AC jr,yel&kole tang,midas&convict blenny,B&G chromies,Blk/yel fin chromie blackcap,nemo,neon goby,6line; Blastomussa Merleti,Acan ,BUBBLE,Torch,LTA, Acropora(2) Moon, assort zoas, yel& G star polyps, P&B ricordia, montiporas, cup&candy corals, xenias,B/G mush,flower ane(2), cherry red mussa, dusters,cleaning crew.. |

| Go with a couple of wrasses...
Sixline of course... Pics
Here is a real beauty that was with me for a long time, but lost in a over-temp disaster last fall...(can be kind of pricey) --- but a neat, active fish with lots of character... FOTM - Hawaiian Flame Wrasse - Sep '07
Cirrhilabrus jordani Pics
A real eye-catcher and well worth investment if you want 1 real "trophy" fish in tank.
And a current favorite,
Coris Wrass Pics
Another knock-out wrasse, relatively cheap and generally available. Great fun to watch moving rubble around tank and searching for goodies to eat in sand and rock. You definitely do not want if your LR is not fairly stable, as it will rearrange tank for you to its liking.
Different kinds of wrasses generally get along well together and with other fish.
Worth looking into...
Have fun.

| I'd go with a wrasse to help control pest or a nice tang to help control algae..Everything I ever add is to do a job the Boss Amcarrig brings in the stupid little gobies and all the cute stuff that dies or gets lost (: We have a pair of scooter blennies that spawn all the time makes for good reef food _________ Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible (Doug Larson) |

PS. If you get anthias, go with lyretails or barletts. They're easier to feed and hardier than other species. And make sure that you don't get just one |

| Check out bogie's leopard wrasse in: Bogie's Coral Thread - Pics
Is a real beauty. No room in my tank for...but if/when there ever is...this looks like a great fish to have.
I think from pics he has a female version. She has much more distinctive coloring then the male.
Gosh, picking out new fish is fun. Really brings out urge to get another tank. |
