Question need to find quick solution...

Hi, My fish are in plastic bags, just purchased 6 hours ago, the hydrometer (measures salinity of water) broke, and too scared to continue with process of filling the tank without getting accurate measure of salt content in water. Help! first of all should i wait a couple more hours to buy a hydrometer (when the store opens - it is past 1 am now) to reproduce a healthy habitat for my fish? or are my fish suffering, as i type, from being in plastic bags?
How long can clownfish survive in plastic bags?
Thank you, nemo14

Is the destination tank empty?? I'm guessing it is a new set up. You don't want to put any fish in there until you have completed the cycling process. As for your fish, they nedd oxygen, so open the bags so there can be some O2 interchange. Temperature is algo very important, so your fish will be in danger just sitting in bags.

Please elaborate a little more on you tank.

sounds like he bought some fish and a tank setup and was going to put em together all at once like a freshwater tank.

Hey chap!

ON YOUR OWN RISK:

Try to keep your temperature at stable level. Put your bags with fish (fish should be in the bags of course) in the bucket with preheated water using aquaristic heater. In the mean time get the hydrometer and prepare water in your display tank! You can attempt speeding up the ammonia/nitrite/nitrate cycle using bacterial colonies that can be bought from your LFS together with special medium that stimulates bacterial growth.

COMMON SENSE SOLUTION:

I think the best solution is to give your fish to LSF for safe-keeping. I would try to arrange that! Good luck!
