Default moorish idol! maybe another chance?

there is a person who has one that livves like 30 minutes from me, and he posted that if no one comes and buys the tank today the fish will die, so i contacted him (he hasnt contacted back) and i said he i will take the fish if your gunna let them die, so i might be the new care giver of a morrish idol, i really dont want to see him just let them die! i can always find someone who wants him anyways.

Maybe the heart is but the head ? Hoss I'd give you about as much chance of keeping a Moorish Idol alive as I would give my own self of getting to the moon on a skateboard . For what ever its worth I have kept them and have had them to last several yrs , But in less then 3 months or so after I could no longer take care of them and my tanks where in the control of my son who is very advanced with 25 plus yrs his self and raised with marine tanks at that time and a LFS owner friend with yrs of practice and experience My M/idol died with in the first 3 or 4 months . And it was the only fish I lost during the 3 yrs I could not access my tanks.

You will never keep one in that tank at this point its to new and to small and you have to make sure there is never any Nitrates period.. They can not handle them at all. A very keep-able fish with advanced hobbyist and you where told that before.. I saw in another string where you mentioned or wanted to know about how to keep a frog spawn and if they safe around other corals . Well that tells me right there you are not ready to kill a Moorish idol .. Look don't get me wrong Hell I eat fish and one dies so what it happens . But I would just hate to see any animal wasted unless it is a varmint (: and I shoot varmints every chance I get .. But hey its your money and your tank and you will have to deal with digging the dead Moorish Idol out of your tank.. I'd just save myself the 30 min ride and the gas and let it die in the other guys tank..Good luck

I would agree with both Luna and Tang .

I would say 99.999 % of the time the moorish idol has about as much chance of surrviving in a reef keepers tank than my wife NOT useing credit cards.

Reasons not to attempt this:
1, Idols have VERY stringent dietary/water quality needs.
( and some of these needs i beleave are are not known at this time )
2,Aside from the odd Idol that seems to surrvive for more than a few months
why atytempt this.
3, The general temprament of this fish is stress/wont eat nothing aside from nip at your prized corals.
4, There are many other beautiful/hardy fish in the trade to own and care for.

I think at this time of global warming / issues with the ocean due to polution
we should try to do our part to protect and "sometimes" leave mother nature to it's own and leave the moorish idol alone
(as well as some others that i may not be aware of , but some here may )

well i went there yesterday, cause he had mutliple fish he was going to let die, and it was acctually a bannerfish, he dies on the way over (seizure) he had 2 large tomato clowns which i temperarily set up my 29 gallon cube with them for now, so that they have a place for now, he ahd a purple tang and a yellow tang, but i couldnt fit those in the tank, so i gave them to a freind for some corals, so yeah, good deed is done for the day, it would have been cool to have one of those in the tank but w.e. b.t.w def. not getting an acctual moorish idol, unless down the road in a couple years and if i have a larger tank, but i dont even know if i would then

I'd love to skateboard to the moon Tangster. I also love shooting rock-chucks and other various farm pests.
