Wink Maroon Clown - Strange Behavior

Hi - I have a maroon clown that stays only at the top of the aquarium. He seems to like to "surf" in the powerhead flow, frequently swiming so close to the surface that his dorsal fin protrudes (he may be part shark ). He is eating well. The reason I'm concerned is he also acts exhausted from fighting the current. Plus, I'd kinda like to see him every once in a while - without having to get directly under the tank and look UP!

I've seen many of these specimens on display, but have never seen one behaving like this. My tank is relatively new (about one month old) with the specs listed below. All water parameters that I monitor look good - Ammonia and Nitrite are at 0, Nitrates are at 10 ppm, temp is at 77, and salinity is 1.024.

Any suggestions for getting him to come down lower into the tank?

Thanks!

How long since you've added him? If not long, he'll eventually get adjusted to the tank. I have noticed that when I add new fish, they tend to be scared or act funny. Give him a couple of weeks and they feel right at home.

Btw, my oscellaris clowns like the surf too. I let them do whatever makes them feel at home.

Thanks for the quick reply. He's been in the tank for about a week. He started out lower in the tank and has gradually worked his way up. Hopefully he'll begin to move lower again soon!

I was under the impression that a lot of juvenile clowns had this behaviour. I know mine did before he was older and there was an anemone to host in.
Enjoy
