I think if the chromis had gotten stung by the lionfish it probably wouldn't have made it to the next day.

Yeah, I had that thought also. Fortunately, nothing died today. Who knows, maybe it was just one of those sudden passing type of things, or perhaps the chromis was as bummed out about the lion's death as I was and just died from sheer depression

I haven't expeienced a drop in Ph from floating to temp, just from oxygenization.

I think in a closed bag the PH would come down because the fiah uses oxygen, creates waste etc etc, but it's a moot point as you wouldn't want to keep a fish in a closed plastic bag for any longer than is necessary :-)

I normally get them in within 30 minutes of acclimation.

In theory, my new lion should be arriving at the LFS today. Since I'm going for quick acclimation into the main tank, I was wondering if I should push my luck with a freshwater dip before the little guy goes in. If so, is there an additive I should use in the bath?

I personally wouldn't fool with the dip. It will cause added unnecessary stress. The best acclimation tip I can suggest is lights out for at least 2 hours when he gets put into the tank.
